Year 2
Year Two
Mr Lewis (2B) and Miss Ahmed(2Y) are supported by Mrs Mensah, Miss Miranda and Miss Lomax.
Curriculum
At St. Helen’s we are committed to developing the whole child through a broad and balanced curriculum. We ensure that we cover all areas of the National Curriculum.
Supporting Learning at Home
We recognize the extremely important role that parents play in their child’s education. We want to work in partnership to help parents develop their skills supporting their child’s learning at home. If parents would like any support with developing home learning please see the Year 2 team.
Every week we change the children’s home reading books (when possible), as well as sending home spellings, times tables, mental maths and homework for the children to learn and complete.
Year Two Expectations
The children in year 2 are assessed in two ways; formative and summative. In all subjects, the children are given a teacher assessment. This happens throughout the year to ensure all children are making progress. The children’s attainment is measured as Working Towards the Standard (WTS), Working At the Standard (EXS) and working at Greater Depth (GDS).
Children are given targets to move their learning forward.
For reading, writing and maths the Year Two children will also be assessed against the statutory assessment framework. Pupils need to meet all of the statements to be awarded the standard. At the end of the academic year, for these subjects we will report on whether each child is working towards, at expected, or above the expected standard of year two.
