Pre-school

Mrs Hawes is supported in the pre-school by four assistants Miss Gil, Miss Kay and Ms Logan and Mrs Watch.  The pre-school offers 12 morning and 12 afternoon places on a part time basis.  The pre-school hours are 8.50am to 11.50am for morning children and 12.20pm to 3.20pm for afternoon children.

How I came to be at St. Helen's:
I initially worked as a nursery nurse in St. Helen's Nursery. I then trained to be a teacher, supported by St. Helen's.

What I like at St. Helen's:
St. Helen's is a truly special school where we worship and learn together.

Pre-school News

Pre-school Ofsted Inspection

The pre-school was subject to its first Ofsted inspection in April 2014 and we are proud to announce that we achieved outstanding in all areas. The report can be found by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

Nursery Fun Day

On Monday 10th July Nur​sery and Preschool had a fundraising fun day! We had face painting, a bouncy castle, bracelet making and paper plate craft activities. 

 

 

Father's Day Tea Party

On Monday 19th June we had a Father's Day tea party to celebrate how much our daddies, uncles and granddads do for us. We had pizza, cake and juice. It was a very hot day but we played some games outside and had a lovely day. All the daddies and granddads got a picture and a key ring from their children.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Animal Experience

On Friday the 18th June Preschool visited an exciting animal experience. We saw and was allowed to touch a snake, a lizard and a baby meerkat. We saw an Owl and a hedgehog too!

 

 

 

Mother's Day Tea Party

In pre-school we held a Mother's Day tea party on 24th March. The children made cakes and sandwiches themselves in order to spoil their mummies with a special treat. Lots of the mums attended and had a lovely time.

 

Fireworks

On the 4th November, we made rockets and had fireworks in the garden as part of our fireworks topic.

 

Cars

For our cars topic we had a car wash in the play area and set up a pretend garage where we fixed cars.

Educational Visits

Visit to the Pet Shop

On 12th and 13th of October the children in Pre- school have visited the pet shop as they learn to care for animals.







 

Shopping

As part of our shopping topic we visited the greengrocer and the bakers. Back at school we made sandwiches and did a role play of different types of shopping.

Parent Workshops

Learning Through Play

On 24th March, parents were invited to a workshop about ‘Learning Through Play’ and how this can help a child’s learning and development.

Setting Boundaries

On Tuesday 22nd November, Pre-school had a parent workshop on setting boundaries and why this is important for children.

 

 

Potty Training Workshop

Preschool had a potty training workshop and many preschool and parent and toddler parents attended. We discussed different signs to look out for to check if your toddler is ready to start potty training. Mrs Hawes is always around to help and gave the parents some reward charts to use to help keep potty training positive.
